A commitment to BADWest furthers our efforts to promote Black filmmakers in telling our stories. Our membership is a unique opportunity to network and engage with creatives in a culturally supportive environment.
Membership in the Black Association is open to people of African descent working in the documentary community. While BADWest is a Southern California based organization focusing primarily on the issues and concerns relevant to Southern California documentary filmmakers, there is n geographical limitation on membership.
Meetings are held at 6:30PM the first Thursday of each month.

Approaching two decades, our signature event DOBD showcases premiere documentaries directed and/or produced by Black filmmakers. Held at the prestigious American Film Institute, the day brings together black filmmakers and enthusiasts with dynamic filmmaker panels and networking. It is a celebration of documentaries, which highlights the Black Experience and spotlights its filmmakers from around the world.
